STEM Serves Key Role for Students with Disabilities
At C-STEM, we stand firmly behind the belief that every child deserves access to the education he or she needs. We often talk about barriers students face in terms of economic means, geographic location, lack of technology, and underfunded schools. Students with disabilities face everyday obstacles on top of these factors.

This Month’s Highlights
2019-2020 Curriculum Puts Students Ahead of the Curve
A large part of preparing students for a world of STEM possibilities is equipping them with the agility to pivot as the tech world continues to evolve. In support of this, each year C-STEM tailors its Challenge Day and the accompanying curriculum for teachers to the latest in technology. This year’s theme, Live Smarter 2.0: The Age of Automation and Artificial Intelligence, dives into technology that is now fueling everything from personal communication to marketing and sales. Preparing students with our free curriculum will empower students in an ever changing tech culture and get them excited about future possibilities through engaging activities.

Assembly Brings STEM to Elementary Students
Last week, C-STEM partnered with the Foundation for the Women’s Energy Network (WEN Foundation) to connect more than 300 3rd – 5th graders at Windsor Village Elementary School. On Wednesday, Sept. 25, the students had the chance to learn from Houston area professionals representing a wide range of fields, including an economist, an engineer, a lawyer, an account, and more.
Students took the opportunity to ask a wide range of questions, including:
- What is gasoline and how is it created?
- What does a geologist do?
- How is it going with Hong Kong and China?
- Why did you pursue a science degree if you ended up going for a law degree?
- How much money do you make?
- What do you like about your job?
- What do you do as a scientist with water?
“This was an amazing opportunity for our WEN Foundation board to share their unique story with 300+ amazing 3rd – 5th graders,” said Dannetta English Bland, WEN Foundation Board Chair. “I hope they learned that there are no limits to one’s ability to succeed, and no set path to get there. Reflecting on the event, our board could not have felt more grateful, inspired and empowered! Thank you C-STEM for your continuous innovation and leadership in education and for your support and partnership with the Women’s Energy Network.”
