Finding the Gaps in STEM Through Chemistry
Hands-on learning can narrow achievement gaps that Black and female students face with university chemistry courses–they either make or breaks you, according to a recent University of Washington study. Low final grades in mathematics, science, technology, and engineering courses have been directly linked to many Black and female students abandoning study. The findings of this study are not surprising and continue to be deeply concerning. Read the Full Article…

This Month’s Highlights
Help C-STEM Reach 30,000 Students!
The transition to online exposed the digital divide and the additional barriers so many children are dealing with daily that impact their ability to learn. C-STEM is raising funds to distribute 30,000 ‘Anywhere C-STEM Toolkits’ to 30,000 students across the nation. Please help us reach our goal. DONATE $25 TODAY!
With the support of our donors we are having an impact, this is what some of the students who have received an ‘Anywhere C-STEM Toolkit’ had to say:
“The Anywhere CSTEM toolkit has made virtual learning more fun because it has some cool tools and it’s fun! The Anywhere CSTEM toolkit helped me to learn because I learn more about science, math and technology, and I have also learned to work without someone right with me all the time.”
-Alexa Jasso, 7th grader, CE King Middle School
“The C-STEM Toolkit has made virtual learning more fun because now I can be more independent and explore more fun ways to learn.”
-Ashly Flores, 7th grader, Null Middle School

Partnering Beyond Borders
We are forever grateful to our book donors for their continue support of the C-STEM Community Little Library Project. Earlier this month, C-STEM donated 100 books to the African Affairs Council under the direction of Dr. Patricia M. Dodd and Joshua Ikoya who are working to create a community library in Nigeria. A special ‘thank you’ goes to HCC Trustee Robert Glaser for coordinating the transport of the books. Stay Tuned!
Intern Spotlight
Meet Kindall Walker
Please welcome back to C-STEM, Kindall Walker! You all may remember the C-STEM National Youth Commissioners that spent a year together advocating for STEM public policy at a local, state, and federal level. The esteemed group of students presented their white paper at The White House. All of the Youth Commissioners received scholarships when they went off to college and of course Kindall was a a scholarship recipient last year. She has completed her first year of college at the University of Texas in Austin and joins C-STEM this summer as a ‘Fund Development’ intern. Kindall plans to someday work in corporate finance at a Fortune 500 company, and have a fulfilling career as a Chief Financial Officer after completing college. Kindall is very ambitious and has also set her sites on starting her own boutique and growing it into a franchise.
