More Than Ever, Our Youth are the Future

It’s no secret that our planet’s natural resources have been declining at an increasingly alarming rate. A recent study showed that the effects of pollution and destruction of nature could quickly reach a critical point, in just decades. Tomorrow’s leaders could be directly responsible for ensuring the resources that fill our everyday needs are still available. Science and technology will be crucial to finding solutions.

This Month’s Highlights

April C-STEM Events Engage Thousands

C-STEM works hard every day to connect teachers, students, parents, and the community but these efforts were more visible than ever last month. Two large scale events brought the month to a close:

9th Annual State of Stem Stakeholders Breakfast

More than 500 attendees came together on April 24 to collaborate on doing the work to better STEM education and improve accessibility to programs.

National C-STEM Challenge

This year’s challenge day on April 27 brought together 12 schools and 49 teams! Hundreds of students and teachers saw a full school year of effort become reality. Students even walked in on the day of the event and were able to compete.

We extend a huge thank you to all the sponsors, volunteers and participants. We couldn’t do Challenge Day without you. It means the world to us that your direct support is because you truly believe in our mission.

For example, Verizon employees were active volunteers at the event. Jason Taylor, Director, Public Sector at Verizon said, “We donate funds because we believe in the organization and we want to give back to the community. “We think it’s about having our people in the field interacting with the kids … that’s why we come and don’t just write a check.”

Russ Anderson, Managing Partner, Public Sector, Verizon continued “It’s important to us that we see our dollars at work because these kids really are shaping the future. They’re building the solutions of tomorrow that are really going to change the quality of life.”

Event Teaches Students About Money

Many students get into the “real world” with no real education on how money works or how to manage their finances. This can be key to success in adulthood, no matter which path or career they choose. Alliance Financial Ministries, Inc. is addressing this need with a career and money simulation event for high school event for high school students on June 8. See the flyer for more on MoneyLive 2019.
